Requiem Sharks in Burma - Reef Life of the Andaman - Part 4

Requiem sharks filmed whilst scuba diving in Burma, also known as Myanmar, at the Mergui Archipelago. First we encounter grey reef sharks (Carcharhinus amblyrhynchos) in the canyon at Shark Cave, alternatively known as "Three Stooges", "Three Islets" or "In Through The Out Door". We then meet some energetic juvenile silvertip sharks (Carcharhinus albimarginatus) at the Burma Banks. And finally we find whitetip reef sharks (Triaenodon obesus) at Fan Forest Pinnacle, near Western Rocky Island, and at the famous Black Rock, both in the Mergui Archipelago.

Requiem sharks constitute the family Carcharhinidae in the order Carcharhiniformes. These sharks have sharp teeth, unlike the carpet sharks in the previous episode. Their fins are popular in the shark finning trade, for use in shark fin soup, and I have witnessed encounters with grey reef sharks, silvertip sharks and whitetip reef sharks declining in the years since I shot this video.
