Manta Rays, Eagle Rays & Mobulas - Reef Life of the Andaman - Part 6

The video stars giant manta rays, Manta birostris, the world's largest ray and an icon of diving in the Andaman Sea. Giant manta rays are graceful and intelligent fish. We encounter them at various sites including Koh Bon, north of the Similan Islands in Thailand, and Black Rock in the Mergui Archipelago in Burma (Myanmar).

The gill rakers of manta rays are used in a traditional Chinese medicine that is thought to detoxify the blood. Because of the rapid increase of this lucrative trade, giant manta rays have become endangered.
